Product – (Thinking and Making) Made in Medway

Product is a collaborative project for artists, designers and makers in Medway. The main activity enables 15 creatives to make products through the process of ‘idea-to-design-to-manufacture’ through creative collaboration with manufacturers.

We want to restore values of imagination, design and quality to manufacturing which gets lost through cheap mass production. Product is about innovation and quality creation, inspiring practitioners and innovative manufacturers to share knowledge, work with new processes, materials and make well designed crafted products. The end result will be unique crafted ‘products’ – both bespoke and prototype exhibited in a showcase exhibition. The showcase exhibition will act as the launch of a new network event for creatives and manufacturers to meet. They can continue collaborating through the Product project, creating a recognised hub of excellence for artists and the creative industries thus providing a sustainable catalyst for development and growth.

The project brings together Arts Council England, Medway Council – Economic Development and Arts Development and the Manufacturing Advisory Service – South East.

A diverse, unique project, collaboration and partnership. Product will be rolling out across the UK towards the end of the 2011.
